The Momence Police Department would like to remind motorists traveling on the posted detour routes this week to adhere to the posted detour signs, as well as the road closed and one-way street signs that are posted. The railroad crossing reconstruction on Dixie Highway is expected to take approximately 5 to 7 days to complete. We have received numerous complaints today about motorists that are violating the one-way street signs and road closed signs that have been posted. We have also been made aware of some vehicles that are driving on residents lawns while attempting to navigate the posted detour. Please be mindful of these signs and follow them as required by law. It is a violation of the Illinois Vehicle Code for motorists to disregard the posted signs, violators are subject to be cited. We are seeking compliance and asking that you respect the resident’s property along these routes. Please use caution when traveling in these areas and be mindful that there are numerous construction workers in the area. The Momence Police Department will be strictly enforcing all posted signs and laws related to this detour.
