The Motorcycle Response Team has issued more than 80 traffic infringement notices and allegedly detected a motorist driving at 62km/h over the speed limit during an operation in the Parramatta area yesterday. Four police motorcyclists from the Parramatta Motorcycle Response Team conducted Operation Delta in the Parramatta and North Parramatta area yesterday afternoon (Saturday 22 November 2014). The operation targeted pedestrian safety, speeding and road-rule compliance as well as drink-driving and anti-social behaviour. Police conducted 45 breath tests and issued 82 infringement notices for offences including speeding, mobile phones, traffic lights and obstructing intersections. Highly-visible mobile and stationary patrols of intersections in the CBD were also conducted to enforce pedestrian safety with police issuing seven (7) infringements for jaywalking. During the operation police allegedly detected a car travelling at 152km/h in a 90km/h zone on James Ruse Drive. The 22-year-old man was issued an infringement for exceeding the speed limit by more than 45km/h. A short time later police allegedly detected a p-plater travelling at 138km/h in the 90km/h zone on James Ruse Drive. The 17-year-old male P1 driver was issued an infringement notice for exceeding the speed limit over 45km/h. Both men were also issued licence suspension notices by police. Two other motorists were allegedly detected travelling at more than 30km/h over the speed limit on James Ruse Drive and were also issued infringement notices. The Motorcycle Response Team (MRT) works to prevent pedestrian fatalities and traffic delays by being a highly-visible presence at busy intersections in the Sydney and Parramatta CBD’s and on major arterial roads. They have the ability to respond quickly to incidents, manage traffic flow and help those injured in serious crashes. Safety on the roads is of paramount importance and road users can expect to see more of these types of operations over the summer months.
