The Mount Makiling Forest Reserve (MMFR) has officially been declared as the 33rd ASEAN Heritage Park. With this declaration, the MMFR is now elevated to a state of high conservation importance in order to preserve the complete spectrum of ecosystems representative of the ASEAN region. The MMFR is a state-owned property administered and managed by UPLB as a training laboratory for instruction and research in forestry and related sciences. The MMFR is biodiversity rich, containing “225 families, 949 genera, 2,038 species, 19 sub-species, 167 varieties and many cultivars of flowering plants and ferns.” The declaration ceremony will be held in the Makiling Botanic Gardens, College of Forestry and Natural Resources, UPLB on October 3, 2013 at 9:00 AM.
