The NEW YEARS SHOWDOWN – a thrilling new rodeo format The Great Western Hotel, has been the home to New Year’s Bullriding since 1999 and has attracted the Top riders in the country each and every year. To keep with the modern times and changing dynamics of bullriding the New Year’s Showdown has been reformatted to attract an even wider range of spectators to entertain. The format will become two teams of ten Bullriders competing twice each night over two nights of competition. They will be competing for $10,000 in prize money. The Top guns series has some of the top riders competing throughout the season and the very best riders are being selected to compete against the formidable south Queensland cowboys from the Mellers Fellers Silver Spur series. Two times Central Queensland Champion Bullrider Brett Cross will Captain TEAM TOP GUNS, while 2013 NRA Champion Bull Rider, Jeff Moretto will captain TEAM MELLERS FELLERS. The two teams will do battle over two rounds of competition each night . The top three bull riders from each team will then go head to head on the 31st final night in a $2000 winner take all shootout. A Calcutta on these Top 6 riders will be run with the Winning Bidder Selecting which bull there rider will ride in the final; this crowd interaction has been a huge success in past events is sure to make the final red hot excitement! The cowboys will not just compete against each other for the $2000 BONUS but against some of Queensland’s toughest bulls, from BK Bucking bulls will be the unridden bull GAME ON and WHATS UP, Dunne Bulls will bring 2014 finals champion bull JACKIE HOWE and 2014 TDI champion Bull THE HUMP. Roundabout Rodeo Company will have 2014 Bucking bull of the year CHUCK NORRIS and Banteng bull TROPICAL LOW The action is not just all for the boys, the pretty ladies and fast horses will be racing against the time clock each night. The Great Western is renowned for training and development of the top young riders in Australia, These young competitors will be catered for in the Afternoon performance starting at 5pm with Poddy Riding, Steer riding, Junior Bullriding and Rookie Bullriding each night. These young riders are extremely dedicated and very professional, thus helping to strengthen an already great event.
