The NYT calls the appointment of UN Ambassador Susan Rice as national security adviser a "slap in the face" to Republicans who vilified her in the trumped-up Benghazi "scandal." In reality, it is a slap in the face to America and the world. Both she and her replacement are strong proponents of the illegal and illegitimate doctrine of Responsibility to "Protect," the idea that the Empire has the right to foster preemptive civil wars to topple governments that do not submit to them, in the guise of promoting "democracy." Thus, they helped cause the real scandal of Benghazi-the use of Al Qaeda mercenaries to take down a popular sovereign government with the strong approval of the American people. Rice was replaced by Samantha Power, who you may remember was the Obama campaign aide who in 2008 slammed Hillary in a most undiplomatic way, forcing Obama to ask for her resignation. One might suspect in retrospect that her antipathy stemmed from a perception that Clinton was not right-wing enough. I am sure that she will make a great UN Ambassador. She embodies the disdain with which the US views the rest of the world. nytimes/2013/06/06/us/politics/tom-donilon-to-resign-as-national-security-adviser.html?nl=afternoonupdate&emc=edit_au_20130605&_r=0
