The Naga Peoples Front (NPF) questions AICC vice president Rahul Gandhi Published on March 30th, 2014 TNT News Dimapur :The Naga Peoples Front (NPF) yesterday questioned AICC vice president, Rahul Gandhi for not raising the Naga political issue for the past 10 years of Congress government at the Centre.During his visit to Kohima on Thursday, Rahul had promised that he would do his best for the Naga political issue. Reacting to Rahul’s statement, the NPF asked why he was making this promise now and taking up the Naga political issue only during elections. On Rahul’s statement that Nagaland’s groth rate has been put in reverse gear and that Rs 300 crores had been given for roads by the Centre, the NPF said Rahul has failed to understand that Congress government at the Centre has put the economy of the country into reverse gear. ”When the Congress led UPA Government took over from the NDA, India’s economic growth rate was 11.5 percent. Now it is hardly 5 percent. Likewise the exchange rate of the Rupee to the Dollar was about forty Rupees and today the exchange rate has crossed sixty rupees. These are facts which entire India is debating and the country’s slow growth along with rise in inflation has become internationally accepted. Along with this are the national embarrassments of multiple scams involving lakhs of crores of rupees where Congress and UPA leaders have been involved. Some of their leaders and ministers have even been jailed,” a statement issued by NPF Press & Media Bureau said. The NPF claimed that Nagaland has performed exceptionally well in the past ten years under Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio and the NPF led DAN Government. It said a committee headed by Raghuram Rajan, the present Governor of Reserve Bank of India, rated the development index of all the states on 10 parameters including, monthly per capita income, education, health, household amenities, poverty rate, female literacy, urbanisation, connectivity and financial inclusion. In this rating Nagaland was the 13th state overall even ahead of states like Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, West Bengal, Assam, Arunachal, Meghalaya, Rajasthan, etc, it said adding, Rahul Gandhi is unaware of his own government’s documents and ratings. The NPF further clarified that Nagaland has not even been sanctioned its due share of plan funds, so where is the question of sanctioning 300 crores for roads. It alleged that the special package announced by the Centre for the ENPO districts to the tune of Rs 300crores has never materialized, besides the Congress led UPA has also denied the Naga people the Prime Minister’s package in 2003 announced by Atal Bihari Vajpayee. The NPF said the Prime Minister’s announcement of four lanning of the national highway between Kohima and Dimapur was rejected by the Congress and till today the commitment of the Prime Minister of India has been denied to the Naga people. The NPF said Rahul’s promises of political solution, development and progress do not hold any water as the whole country is well aware of that Congress is going to get voted out of power. It said Rahul should have apologized to the Naga people for the neglect and the step motherly treatment that the Congress has given to Nagaland. He failed to provide any vision or motivation to the youth of the region and the State and only made a mockery of his visit to Nagaland with lies and false allegations, which goes to show his calibre and capacity, the NPF added.
