The Nantymoel Community Association 8 Ogwy Street, Nantymoel, BRIDGEND, CF32 7SE Email: [email protected] This introductory newsletter aims to inform you on who and what we are and will be followed by regular news updates via further newsletters, Press and posters in the shop windows. The Nantymoel Community Association has been formed out of the remnants of what was the “Save the Berwyn Campaign”. Unfortunately we were not successful in our long and hard fought efforts to persuade Bridgend Council not to destroy the valleys only Historic Cultural Community Centre. That destruction has left us with a task of working hard to replace the facilities that were available to the Valley via the Berwyn Centre. This is a huge project with no “quick fix” and those involved know that we are here for the long haul. The association is a fully incorporated association which will become a fully registered Charity working in the Valley to promote and support Cultural and Social benefits for the inhabitants of the Valley as a whole as well as Nantymoel. We are wholeheartedly supported in our efforts by the Bridgend Castle Players who have agreed to work with us on fundraising and social events on a regular basis. They miss the Berwyn Centre too as it was their ‘home’ for many years. We at the association will continue this close tie with the Castle Players as an ongoing and very positive role in the Valley of providing whatever facilities we can to the benefit of everyone in the Valley. We all need to understand and appreciate that we as a community can provide all that we need if we work together. Volunteers will be required to work on various projects, so if you have a skill you can offer for the betterment of the community as a whole, please step forward. Even if you have no specialised skills, please come forward anyway, we all have skills we can offer but sometimes we don’t recognise it in ourselves. Even if it’s pounding the pavements delivering the newsletters, it will still be a valuable contribution. We are at present refurbishing the above premises 8 Ogwy Street to open them as a drop in centre where anyone can call in for information and support in the community. Keep an eye open for our newsletter leaflets with which we will keep everyone informed of news, events and developments as they become available. We are still working on ideas for ways to best use the shop so your ideas and suggestions are very welcome, but please note that it is a very small space. Your input is vital, the Community Association can only thrive for you and WITH you. We ask you to please remember what we are trying to do and why we are doing it. We are an open and transparent community association for all to enquire on our activities, If anyone has any questions on anything at all please contact us at our shop / office at the above address, or if you prefer you can email. A landline telephone number will be given as soon as available. So please: Get in touch! Volunteer, or even just pop in to say hello. Watch as the shop moves nearer to completion and opening. Date to be advised next time! From all at the Nantymoel Community Association – we look forward to working together as a community to improve all our lives in as many ways as we can. We are (so far): Bob Gronow; Dave Smith; Elaine Smith; Julie Thomas; Sarah Taylor; Tracey Lloyd; Anthony Berrow; Maria Berrow; Carl Cowling and Sian Islip.
