The National Association of Nigerian Students Joint Campus Committee (NANS/JCC) has made a case for the outstanding leadership qualities of Chief of staff, Government House, Asaba Dr. Festus Goziem Okubor who they endorsed to contest the 2015 governorship of Delta State even as they immediately set up the students’ solidarity front for Okubor. Secretary General of the umbrella body that brings all Nigerian students in Delta state together for effective mobilization and welfare, Comrade Sylvanus Ovwoshorkpite while presenting the certificate of endorsement to him at Agbor described Okubor as an icon of hope and inspiration and an epitome of peace and development. He said Okubor’s outstanding leadership qualities, administrative competence, humanitarian gesture; good governance service delivery and his disposition to curbing gender inequality thereby eliminating discrimination against women among other things are endearing attributes that earned him the students’ endorsement to run for governorship elections in 2015. “While you proved yourself a worthy ambassador and promoter of good governance, growth and development, you never realized that the eyes of the Nigerian students were watching you keenly. We are coming out with Students” solidarity Front for Dr. Okubor and we will use the body to mobilise Nigerian students in Delta state that will not stop at just endorsing you but we will work tirelessly until you become governor come 2015,” Ovwoshorkpite said. Dr. Okubor with whom was Chief Olori Magege and Chief Paul Okobi appreciated the students, saying that he was humbled by their gesture. “I want to tell you that for your sake we shall all work together to transform our state and society to the extent that the struggles will come to an end. We have on offer new deals for our state that we will unfold at appropriate times. New deals that will take unemployment; youth unemployment to zero levels. We have packages that if implemented within three years, we will be able to look at an idle youth in the eyes and ask him pointedly, Why are you not at work?” Okubor declared. While promising to unfold details of his package for Deltans during campaigns, he urged the students that for their request that he should run for governorship to be achieved, they should go to every leader of PDP in Delta state, to the governor, to Chief E. K. Clark, to Chief Peter Nwaoboshi and beg all the leaders and Deltans to support their action. “That is the only way that your action can be turned into reality,” Okubor said.
