The New England Morgan Show---Some impressions--- So, first thing that see as a dramatic change from years back is what appears to be a no holds barred approach to shoeing, Lots of huge, heavy shoes, resulting in extreme knee and hock action--- Not every horse, but a strong impression. Second---Not all, but many had longer, less crested, more overflexed necks than the Morgans I remember, which sort of ties in with what people say about the breed becoming more Saddlebred-y But overall, they are still beautiful horses. What I really think is that if they could be shod normally, be bitted in mild snaffles, gotten fit slowly on hills, they would be the same kinds of Morgans as the ones I rode in trail rides in years past. Many very skilled riders, and beautiful horses, just being trained and ridden in a different style than what I grew up with. This is NOT a slam, simply some observations from an outsider looking at a world very different than mine. I know some of the sport Morgan lovers will want to get critical here, but I`d appreciate it if you can keep any comments civil.
