The New Gettysburg Four score and seven years ago our fathers brought forth on this continent a new nation, conceived in liberty, and dedicated to the proposition that all men are created equal. Now we are engaged in a great civil war, testing whether that nation, or any nation so conceived and so dedicated, can long endure. We are met on a great battlefield of that war. Albuquerque ! We now fight over who has the rights over my body. Your body. Every womans body. Why here? Why now? You chose this path to make peace with the long dark tea time of your soul. Your tea table is narrow. At the head sits the jealous man of your choice. The only people invited are those that agree with your choice. You offer white bread or dry wafers. Drinks vary but there is definitely red wine. My tea table is round. There is no head and it sits a multitude. Everyone is invited – even you – if you agree to make room for all the others. I offer white bread, dry wafers, pita, chapattis, rice, tortillas, fried bread, croissants, and all sorts of things I may never taste. Drinks vary and for some there is red wine. Are we experiencing a failure to communicate? Can I conceive of a metaphor that will birth understanding in your heart and mind? So you chose a Civil War. All so you might gain a chance at heaven All so we wont forget it is really all about you Especially when it isnt. Nothing we say Appears to breach your heart And so I pray. that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.
