The New Testament describes mankind as falling under one of two - TopicsExpress

The New Testament describes mankind as falling under one of two conditions: either 1) "in the flesh" or 2) "in the Spirit". (John 3:6; Rom 8:9; Gal 3:3; 5:17) This corresponds to being either 1) Carnal or 2) Spiritual. Since this a consistent declaration throughout Scripture, we must ask Arminians whether those under the influence of their so-called prevenient grace are 1) "in the flesh" or 2) "in the Spirit"? If they say "in the flesh" they must contend with Jesus who says those in the flesh can do "nothing" (John 3:6 & 6:63) since Christians were born "not of the will of the flesh" (John 1:13). But if Arminians say those under the influence of prevenient grace are "in the Spirit" they must face up to the clear fact that the Bible describes all persons who are in the Spirit as people who are already regenerate Christians. So it seems the Arminians only recourse is to create out of thin air (as it were) a third condition somewhere in-between these two states which is nowhere alluded to in the Bible.
