The New York Universitys Global Institute of Public Health are sending a capstone team (giph.nyu.edu/mph/public-health-practice/capstone.html) to Dhaka Bangladesh from 15th March to 23rd March 2014 to evaluate a program. Details of the program and the project are provided below. They are looking for volunteers who are bilingual in Bangla and English that could help with photography, film, translation and transcribing. Background: StreetWise Education Foundation (streetwise.bd/) StreetWise (SW) is a non-profit social enterprise providing an integrated and holistic approach to education and well being of vulnerable street-involved children. SW provides a boarding facility and set of essential student and family services. Its innovative model offers its students an income generation program using art and technology, whilst also providing them with skills and experiences that will prepare them for a modern digital world. SW has formed partnerships with local schools, both public and private, and offers an exchange program where disadvantaged children are invited to SW to enjoy a creative and fun environment. The photo-Voice project StreetWise needs to demonstrate impact on students’ lives in terms of health, well-being and education outcome to help acquire funding for program maintenance and expansion. The capstone team will conduct a participatory evaluation of StreetWise utilizing a photovoice/video approach to not only to assess how StreetWise has impacted its students, but to assist the students in gaining a voice within the program and with outside audiences, donors, and other organizations (creating youth empowerment). Photo exhibiton of the childrens work, a photo book and a short film will be created to highlight the great work done by StreetWise Education Foundation in Dhaka, New york and London. The aim is to raise awareness and help make StreetWise a sustainable organisation to allow every street involved child the opportunity to be raised in a healthy, safe and fun environment.
