The Newman Choir, which operates under the aegis of the Fr. J. B. Fernandes Sacred Music Foundation, is the only choir in Mumbai that is dedicated to the promotion of sacred music of all genres. To this end, we have staged several concerts of sacred music, including works of great composers like Bach, Mozart, Palestrina, Handel & Bruckner to name but a few, contemporary gospel music and Indian/ethnic music. Over the last few years, we have collaborated with Joe Cordo Productions, in staging the musical “The Witness”, and have been invited to sing at various events in the archdiocese of Mumbai. In October 2011, the Newman Choir brought “Vespers” to the faithful of the archdiocese of Mumbai, and in February 2012, was invited to perform in old Goa at the “Monte Music Festival 2012”, in the Chapel of “Our Lady of Monte”. Apart from concerts, we also organize an annual Lenten Mission/Outreach program, using the medium of sacred music, and as part of our social responsibility, undertake annual visits to orphanages, elderly homes, hospices and the clergy home.
