The No1 song in the US and the UK on this day, September 28th - TopicsExpress

The No1 song in the US and the UK on this day, September 28th 1968, was Hey Jude by The Beatles, a single that was later the title of a US only album in 1970. The B-side of the single was the faster version of Revolution, which also appeared in the US on that album. The slower version of Revolution first appeared on The White Album. The reason there are so many versions of revolution is because Paul did not like the song, so John kept tinkering with it and wasnt happy when Hey Jude was made the A-side at a meeting he was not told about. Everybody knows the Hey Jude story so, quick synopsis: Written by Paul McCartney. Originally titled Hey Jules as a conversation with Johns son Julian after Johns divorce from his mother Cynthia. Changed to Jude after a character in the musical Oklahoma. At 7:11 was the longest radio single up to that point, which paved the way for singles such as American Pie and Layla. Here is a rare version of Hey Jude at a studio practice session.....Enjoy!
