The No1 song in the US on this day, September 30th 1983, was Total Eclipse Of The Heart by Bonnie Tyler from the album Faster Than The Speed Of Sound. The song also peaked at No1 in the UK,but weeks earlier, when it debuted at No1 making Tyler the first female artist ever to do so. Being born in Swansea, Wales, she became the first Welsh artist to top the US Billboard charts. I know what youre thinking right now, what about Tom Jones hes Welsh. Indeed he is boys and girls, but.... even though he had 19 top 40 hits in the US, his only No2 was Shes A Lady. Total Eclipse..., written by Jim Steinman(songwriter for the majority of Meatloafs good songs), was first offered to Meatloaf, whose record company turned it down wanting Meatloaf to write his own next album. E. Street Band members drummer Max Weinberg and keyboardist Roy Bittan both played on this song as well as guitarist Rick Derringer. This song played key plot points in the films Bandits and Urban Legends as well as a raunchy version played by the Dan Band in Old School. This single sold over 5 million records worldwide. Heres the official video from the song that we couldnt stop hearing everywhere in 1983 Total Eclipse Of The Heart .....Enjoy!
