The Norfolk, VA Sheriff’s Office has an employment opportunity for the following: JOB TITLE: Public Information Officer SALARY: Commensurate with experience LOCATION: 140 East St, Norfolk, Virginia DESCRIPTION: The Norfolk Sheriff’s Office (NSO) Public Information Officer (PIO) is responsible for overseeing communications to the media, civic organizations and the general public. Duties include but are not limited to: • Chief spokesperson for the Norfolk Sheriff’s Office • Manage communications with the media • Coordinate media requests for staff and inmate interviews • Compose press releases • Prepares and oversees monthly NSO employee newsletter • Coordinate with the NSO Community Affairs Division functions and events for civic organizations • Responsible for content and update of NSO official website, Facebook page and other social media outlets as necessary • Instruct at the NSO Training Academy on media relations to new deputy recruits and staff • Compose articles for state and national publications • Function as MC for NSO academy graduations • Take photographs during special events attended by Sheriff or staff to be edited and used in media such as Facebook, NSO website, and NSO Times newsletter EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE: o Must possess superior writing and communication skills. o Salary is negotiable depending on qualifications and experience. o Competitive benefits package o Position is open until filled o Proficient in Microsoft Office, especially Word and Publisher APPLY: Send resume and completed application to Diana Minor, Secretary to the Sheriff, 140 East Street, Norfolk, VA 23510.
