The Northern Health and Social Care Trust, in partnership with Monkstown Community Initiatives, is piloting free ‘Stress Control’ classes. The six-week cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) based self-help programme consists of 90-minute presentations. It is aimed primarily at people experiencing mild to moderate anxiety or mixed anxiety/depression. Dr William Mowlds, clinical psychologist with the Northern Trust, said: “Stress Control is not group therapy - you will not have to talk about personal issues in front of others. The classes are for anyone who wants to learn more about stress and new skills to manage a very common problem.” Delivered by a trained CBT therapist and staff from the Trust, the courses will run at Monkstown Village Centre on Tuesdays, 7pm - 8.30pm, October 22 - November 26 and Fridays, 12pm - 1.30pm, October 25 - November 29. The classes, the Trust notes, might be of interest to people who may not routinely access health services, such as younger or older males. For more information telephone 9086 0090.
