The Old Saratoga Historical Association will meet this Thursday, - TopicsExpress

The Old Saratoga Historical Association will meet this Thursday, March 27, at 7:30 pm at the Town of Saratoga Town Hall, corner of Broad and Spring Streets, Schuylerville for a very interesting program. Adam Luscier, of Hartgen Archeological Associates, Inc., will detail some of the precontact or Native American sites that were discovered in recent archeological studies in the Saratoga Lake area. Saratoga, Ballston and Round Lakes are vestiges of a landscape that was very different than it appears today. Nearly 12,000 years ago the Mohawk River flowed through the Saratoga area as a three channel system—these channels became the basins for Saratoga, Ballston and Round Lakes. The ancient Mohawk eventually shifted onto its current path, but left behind deep sands that were carved by time into extensive dune fields, sand plains and a mosaic of streams, lakes, ponds and various wetlands. These features greatly influenced early human occupation of the Saratoga area. Over the past decade a lot of change has come to the Saratoga area and with that Hartgen was given the opportunity to complete a number of archeological studies in the area. Luscier will point out some of the sites of the early human occupation of the Saratoga area and the types of early cultures that came to the area. Jim Ruhle will bring his large collection of arrowheads that he found on the Ruhle farm near Staffords Bridge. For more information contact historical association president Deb Peck Kelleher, 698-3211. Also, it is not too late to read Dawn Land by Joe Bruchac. We will come together to discuss this book on Thursday, April 3 at 7:30 pm at the Schuylerville Public Library. The date was incorrectly printed in the 2014 schedule of Old Saratoga Historical Association programs.
