The Old Testament; the book of Proverbs in particular, speaks a lot of "pursing righteousness." Proverbs 15 for example has a verse that says "God blesses those who pursue righteousness." Now, although that is indeed an Old Testament scripture, it holds TRUE for us in the New Testament. To pursue righteousness in the Old Testament had everything to do with obeying the Laws of God strictly (of which there were 600 plus, including the 10 commandments). Longer story short, Jesus says -- in very New Testament-like language, "blessed are those who thirst and hunger after righteousness, for they will be FILLED." God knew we could not satisfy the strict commandments of the Old Testament. Therefore he sent Son Jesus who IS our righteousness. So if you go back to proverbs, it reads.."God blesses those who pursue JESUS." For He HIMSELF is our Righteousness..and faith in HIM and him alone is the only way we can satisfy and please God the Father.
