The Overweight Dachshund The dachshund who became famous for his obesity and weight loss, is recovering at veterinarian clinic in Oregon. Obie, age 7 underwent surgical treatment to remove two pounds of loose skin as a result of weight loss. Obie topped out at 77 pounds. According to his current owner and former certified veterinary technician Nora Vanatta, the dog is recovering well but his owner would like Obie to lose another five pounds. A dachshund typically weighs up to 32 pounds max. As of May 7, Obie weighs 35 pounds. Vanatta had rescued Obie from elderly owners that were allegedly feeding it to death. The dog quickly rose in fame last year after Vanatta put him on a diet and started taking the dog on television appearances. Obie appeared on shows such as Live with Kelly and Michael and the Today Show. SHARE this great story!
