The PGA Championship (Golfs final shot at glory)... Rory - TopicsExpress

The PGA Championship (Golfs final shot at glory)... Rory McIlroy has proven that he can win majors with huge leads ... and by coming back from three shots behind at the turn! I knew his approach shot on the 10th hole would be the defining moment in the final round. I still do not know what he hit from the deck on the 10th hole but it was a rather great usage of his British Open skills that came into play on this par-5 10th. He hit a shot that ran up to and onto the green and stopped six feet from the hole for a putt at eagle. Of course, everyone watching knew he was going to drop that 6-footer ... and the rest is history! Rory, you have definitely answered the big question as to what you were going to do after that 2011 Masters blow-up in the final round! McIlroy had at least a share of the lead for the first three rounds and had a four stroke advantage entering Sundays final round, but shot an 80 to finish ten strokes behind Charl Schwartzel. So Rory answered that blow-up by blowing up the field at the 111th U.S. Open, played June 16–19 at Congressional Country Club in Bethesda, Maryland, a suburb northwest of Washington, D.C. In winning the 2011 US Open, Rory McIlroy of Northern Ireland won his first major title, eight strokes ahead of Jason Day. He set 11 U.S. Open records on the weekend, including the lowest total 72-hole score (268) and the lowest total under par (−16). McIlroy and Robert Garrigus became the fifth and sixth golfers in U.S. Open history to score under par in all four rounds. Well done Rory, winner of his fourth career major and his second PGA Championship (he won by eight shots in 2012).
