The PGA Tour announced Wednesday that the McGladrey Classic tournament on St. Simons Island will be around at least another five years. McGladrey, the assurance, tax and business consulting firm that has sponsored the tournament since its inception in 2010, will extend its sponsorship through 2020, PGA Tour Commissioner Tim Finchem said at a press conference held at Sea Island Golf Club. The Georgia Water Coalition’s annual Dirty Dozen report, released Wednesday, included the Turtle River for the first time in its four-year history, along with previous list makers — the Satilla River, the Floridan Aquifer and the area’s coastal and freshwater wetlands. The annual report highlights what the coalition of clean water-minded nonprofits sees as the worst offenses and biggest threats to Georgia’s waters. Chuck Scragg and Glynn County Airport Commission Director Robert Burr urged county commissioners this week to back a minimum $4 million bond issue, the cost of installing the infrastructure necessary to service the expansion of existing industry and possibly two new industries at the Brunswick Golden Isles Airport. Burr said Stambaugh Aviation is considering an expansion at its location north of the Brunswick airport’s terminal. The Secret Service has apprehended a man who jumped over the White House fence Wednesday at about 7:16 p.m. This latest incident comes about a month after a previous White House fence jumper sprinted across the lawn and entered the mansion before being stopped in the East Room and taken into custody. - Read the full stories and more in todays issue of The Brunswick News or at thebrunswicknews
