The PMs man From FIJI TIMES/PACNEWS News Wed 05 Mar 2014 SUVA, Fiji ----- Commodore Voreqe Bainimaramas 15 years as the Republic of Fiji Military Forces Commander will come to an end today. And succeeding the aspiring politician is the Land Force Commander, Brigadier General Mosese Tikoitoga. This was confirmed by permanent secretary in the Prime Ministers Office, Lieutenant Colonel Pio Tikoduadua. Lt-Col Tikoduadua said Brig-Gen Tikoitoga was appointed by Commodore Bainimarama Tuesday. At the moment, he (Brig-Gen Tikoitoga) is number three (in the force). He is now going to become number one. He is now the commander of the whole force, Lt-Col Tikoduadua said. The Prime Minister earlier made the announcement of the new commander which is really a very critical step now that he has announced his successor. Lt-Col Tikoduadua said Commodore Bainimarama would now concentrate as the Prime Minister and prepare himself, the government and his team for the election scheduled to be held in September. So I think this is a very critical process. Commodore Bainimarama earlier confirmed his reason to step down was to focus on his new political party. The handover ceremony has started at the Queen Elizabeth Barracks this morning, beginning with a church service before the traditional ceremonies where Commodore Bainimarama will hand over the reins to Brigadier General Tikoitoga.
