He could hear the radio playing a music Why Dont You Believe me by Joni James outside. He sat down for a while while fascinating all the good times that they had shared together during Valentines day. Now he all alone with no one to spend Valentines with. He went home alone that night and he never felt more lonely in his life until now. Everything inside the house reminds him of Amber, whichever way he looks and touch, its all about Amber. He now knew how Amber feels. This is what it probably feels like for Amber, alone at most nights hes not home and I dont know how she can handle it. I miss her and its killing me every minute of it. For six years, she must have missed me so much and she never said a word. I miss you so much Amber and Im so sorry for leaving you alone most times. God, please forgive me. He started to cry asking God for forgiveness that night. Meanwhile, Eric and Amber enjoy sitting down by the fireplace. The air is crisp but the heat from the fire burning through the fireplace keeps them both warm. Amber notices Eric falls asleep, so she takes him in with the wool blanket they brought along with them. Eric opens his eyes and looks at Amber sitting next to him. Its okay, I know youre tired. You can close your eyes, I will be here right beside you. I love you Amber. Amber smiles back at him and kiss him gently on his forehead. Eric fell back to sleep afterwards. Amber can see the stars through the window. It is a wonderful night, even on a winter night. She can hear Erics breathing and she felt good about that and held his hands closer to her heart. Even though her love for Russell means so much to her, she owes Eric her happiness. Eric had thought her how to live and be free of worries. It did not matter whether they do not have anything like how Russell does, but as long as they are close to each other everyday, she is very happy. The next day, Amber woke up close to nine in the morning. Eric is still sleeping and when she tried to wake him up, he would not respond. She checks for his breathing and he is still alive. Eric? Wake up. Still Eric did not wake up and Amber is getting worried because Eric is still not responding. She stands up and put on a coat, then checks outside. They are absolutely somewhere secluded but the town cant be too far away. She checks for a telephone around the cottage, and theres no telephone. She started to panic and started to cry next to Eric. Oh, Eric, please wake up. Dont leave me. She had to leave Eric alone for now and get some help and so she did. Once she reached the town, she calls for an ambulance and soon they located Eric and brought him to the hospital where Russell works. The doctors and nurses gathered around as soon as they brought Eric inside the hospital. They did some test and finds out that his immune system has gone down. They kept him in the hospital so they can monitor him. Russell went to work at the same time, but unaware of Amber and Eric inside the hospital. He went about his duties like always. Days, weeks, three months had passed by and Eric is getting worst. Amber is running low on money and simply cannot afford to let Eric stay in the hospital. When Eric finds out that Amber is about to take a second job, he refused to stay in the hospital. Amber and he had an argument and most of the staff in the hospital hears it. Let me stay home, Im dying Amber. NO, stop saying that. I cant let you just die. Amber, I have done everything else in the world, I could possibly ask for. Youre here with me now; so, please just take me home. I cant let you suffer and you are in a lot of pain. At the time, Russell was doing his rounds on the floor where Eric is confined. The doctor who supposed to be checking the patients is off duty; so, Russell was asked to do it. He passes by his room unaware of his and Ambers presence to check on another patient. After checking, he goes to the nurses station and hears the nurses talking about a couple. I feel so bad about for her. Says the nurse to her co-worker. He is right and if were him, I would rather die in my own home with my family close beside me. Nurses, please... You are aware that it is not polite to talk about other patients when other people can hear you. Says Russell to two of the nurses next to him. Sorry doctor, its just its heartbreaking to see the woman. Give me the list of patients I need to see here. Asks Russell. One of the nurses accidently gave the wrong chart and it was Erics chart. He read his condition and felt bad for the patient. Although he never recalls his colleagues about this patient when he gave him the list. As soon as he walks in, he couldnt believe his eyes. The patient is Eric and Amber is next to him. Amber is also stunned to find Russell inside Erics room. Eric on the other hand, look back and forth to Amber and Russell, studying each others look. It took Russell a moment to speak to Eric and Amber. Good morning. I see youre Mr. Collin. Im Dr. Sanchez and Its nice to see you again Amber. You too Russell. Russell looks back to Erics chart and looks back to Amber. He asks to be excused with Amber and Eric approved. Amber, why have not you come to me for help? Russell, you know its different now and Im with Eric. I know that, but he is not doing good. He is dying, do you know what that means? I know, and I cannot leave him alone. The cost of this hospital are rising, and with you giving up the store and with a little money save wont give him any comfort. I dont want to see him suffer like this. I want him to be comfortable until he---- She couldnt finish her last sentence and started to cry. Russell grabs her immediately and wraps his arms around her to calm her down. The nurses started to notice both of them and they kept looking. Take him home Amber. Give him his last wishes. I dont think staying here in the hospital will do him good. They have done everything they can, he does not have much time left. Oh Russell, I dont know what to do. I cant let him die, I just cant. Take him home, and I will help him.
