The People’s Democratic Movement, (PDM) yesterday said it has neither considered merging nor aligning with any other political party in the country. The National Chairman of the Party, Mallam Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, made the clarification through his Media Advisor, Alaba Yusuf. Meanwhile the party, said the party’s membership advisory committees has slated its congresses and national convention for early next year. Reacting to assertions that PDM was in a merger or alliance talks with the All Progressives Congress, APC, Mallam Ibrahim said “It is figment of the fertile imagination of some political wishful thinkers or soothsayers. PDM, as the oldest political party in Nigeria today, is here to stay. The only committee we have put in place recently is our membership registration committee. “We have already registered millions of members and are planning to register millions more. Although we welcome constructive dialogue with any political party to further good governance and genuine developmental interest of our country, but merger or alliance is not under consideration for PDM; now or in the foreseeable future.” The PDM, also described the sudden demise of the paramount ruler of Akure Kingdom, the Deji of Akure, Oba AdegboyeAdebiyi AdesidaAfunbiow o II, 63, as a monumental loss of a great leader, bridge-builder and a symbol of peace. While mourning the death of the royal father whose three-year rule was very remarkable to the people of Ondo State and Nigeria, Mallam Bashir Yusuf Ibrahim, the National Chairman of PDM, who spoke through his Media Advisor, Alaba Yusuf, reiterated the need for constant prayers and regular medical check-ups to avert the high rate of sudden deaths amongst highly placed Nigerians. Meanwhile, the Party wishes the families of the deceased monarch and the good people of Ondo State the fortitude to bear the loss, eternal rest for the soul of the ruler and prayed that God would give Akure a benevolent and understanding king to replace the 46th Deji of Akure that died recently.
