The Perry baseball and softball teams are at it again as the Bluejays and Jayettes face Raccoon River Conference foe A-D-M (Adel) tonight in Perry. BASEBALL: No. 8 A-D-M (11-5) vs. Perry (12-3). The Tigers are coming off a 4-2 win against Newton last night. A-D-M has three hitters in the lineup that are hitting over .300 so far this season in seniors Logan Essy (.442 average, team-high five doubles and 14 RBI), Grant Goeden (.412, team-high 21 hits) and Robby Sloss (.323). The Bluejays are likely to see either Logan Essy or Ethan Herron on the hill for A-D-M. Essy is 3-0 on the year with 13.1 innings pitched in three starts. He has struck out 18 batters, walked seven and owns a 3.15 earned-run average. Herron is 2-1 with 16 innings pitched in three starts. He has struck out 16, walked four and has a 4.38 ERA. Perry has five hitters who have been tearing the cover off the ball in the midst of its six-game win streak, including juniors Nic Wilhelmi (team-high .405 BA and 17 hits), Zach Roberts (.364 BA), Will Whiton (.326 BA) and seniors Jeremiah Ellett (.324 BA) and Ben Daniels (.310 BA, team-high 12 RBI). When the two teams met earlier in the month June 6, A-D-M defeated the Bluejays in Adel, 4-2. The junior varsity game is set to begin at 5:30 p.m. and the varsity game to follow. SOFTBALL: A-D-M (10-7) vs. Perry (9-6). The Tigers are pursuing their sixth-straight victory heading into the game against the Jayettes. In their last five games, A-D-M has shutout its opponents 25-0, most recently with a 2-0 win at Ballard June 16. Top hitters on the Tigers’ roster include senior Jessica Wyant (team-high .400 BA and 20 hits) and sophomore Molly Jacobson (.314 BA). Jacobson is also the team’s No. 1 inside the circle, carrying a 9-7 record in 103.1 innings pitched. The sophomore has struck out 130 batters, walked 38, has a 2.98 earned-run average whereas opponents are hitting just .186 against her. Carrying last night’s 7-4 win against Gilbert into tonight’s game, the Jayettes’ offensive threat is led by freshman Emma Olejniczak (team-high .432 BA and 19 hits), senior Kylie Brandt (.425 BA), senior Julie Diw (.388 BA and team-high 14 RBI) and junior Katelyn Whelchel (.317 BA). Olejniczak is the Jayette’s No. 1 inside the circle, owning a 9-6 record with 88 innings pitched. The freshman has struck out 76 batters, walked 54 and has a 3.66 earned-run average. When the two teams last met on June 6 in Adel, Perry took the game by way of a 9-7 decision. The junior varsity teams will take the field at 6 p.m. and the varsity game will be played after.
