The Philadelphia Mayors Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO) is accepting applications for the Meals and More Fellowship. Meals and More fellows will research emergency meal policy for CEO, coordinate volunteers at designated soup kitchens, and lead data collection of emergency meal guests and providers. Fellows help to fight hunger and combat poverty in Philadelphia. Fellows will help improve the quality of emergency meals served in Philadelphia and will report to the Chief of Staff for CEO. Additionally, fellows have the opportunity to learn about careers in City government and non-profits. City of Philadelphia Meals and More Fellowship Application 2014 Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity Program Overview The City of Philadelphia’s Meals and More Fellowship offers an opportunity for undergraduate and graduate-level students to learn about and contribute to the City’s work in combating hunger. Meals and More fellows will research emergency meal policy for the Mayor’s Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity (CEO), coordinate volunteers at designated soup kitchens, and lead data collection of emergency meal guests and providers. Fellows report to the Chief of Staff for CEO. Fellows will help improve the quality of emergency meals served in Philadelphia. Fellows also have the opportunity to learn about careers in City government and non-profits. The Meals and More Fellowship offers work experience with the City, non-profits, and soup kitchens. The Meals and More Fellowship is a ten-week unpaid fellowship beginning June 2, 2014 and ending August 8, 2014. Fellows are required to commit to at least 25 hours per week and be available to work the duration of the fellowship program. Included in the 25 hours are: Recruiting and leading Meals and More volunteers at their emergency meal site; Researching food insecurity and best practices in emergency meal service; Collaborating with meal site supervisors to implement best practices; Collecting and analyzing data on emergency meal guests and providers; Preparing trainings to increase connections to social services. Fellows also have the opportunity to participate in: Exploring Government. Every Friday programming that includes speaker events, visits to municipal operations and programs, and leadership development training. The “My Philly Summer” program with Campus Philly. This program brings together interns working across various businesses in Philadelphia over the summer for fun, interesting, and free networking events throughout the summer. Fellow Qualifications Applicants must be an undergraduate or graduate student in order to apply. Applicants should have a strong background in one of the following: social work, human services, statistics, public policy, public health, planning, urban studies, or public administration. Additional qualifications needed are strong written and verbal communication, problem solving, and teamwork. Application and Interview Process Upon assessment of your cover letter and resume, the Office of Community Empowerment and Opportunity will contact you if you are selected for an interview. Interviews will take place in April. Applicants will be notified of their selection to the program by May.
