The Philippine culture is obsessed by beauty treatments with lots - TopicsExpress

The Philippine culture is obsessed by beauty treatments with lots of outlets for skin treatments, hair styles, whitening studios, and minor surgical skin adjustments. Frankly, I find the natural tones of Filipino skin very attractive just as is, but there are lots of options available to please both men and women. Only in the Philippines do I dare to have facial treatments, my third in 6 years at a cost of $6 an hour at In Your Face center. The young lady tenderly rubs cleansing ointments over your face, producing a mask effect, then set a hot blower on the face for 15 minutes to soften the skin. Then she pours over the face with her instruments, attacking all black and whiteheads, at the end of which she proudly shows you the panel of extracted debris. As I walked into the establishment, Mary greeted me warmly, remembering me from two years ago, wrote down my name without prompting, and asked me all about my leg. It seems she has been following me meticulously on Facebook and has been, ever so concerned. I detail the story for her while under her minute facial examination. She is 25 years old, mother of a 5 year old daughter but looks like she is 15, wonderful advertising for her profession of seven years. Wants me to pray about the major decision to move possibly to Abu Dhabi, for more productive work, leaving daughter and husband behind. I express my hesitations and concerns. She insists they cant make it as a family in this economy. The appointment concludes with more cleansing liquids. Im not to wash my face till the next day. The conversation is worth far more than the face cleansing, so I tip her $5. Mary and her family will be in my prayers.
