The Picture There are some blessings that words just can’t - TopicsExpress

The Picture There are some blessings that words just can’t say, “Thank you” for…. But we can try…. Today, April 6, reminds me of such a blessing, a sister… She was only four when I was born but she began practicing her “mommy” skills on me and never stopped. She was always there, to encourage, correct, and talk me into coming home every time I ran away… to hide under the bridge a couple hundred feet past the barn. I remember hearing her call, “Ray, come home. I have a box with some pennies in it”. The “ box” was her closed hand with two pennies. But it got me home! There is a picture that has stayed with me every day of my life! I went to call her for something and as I started up the stairs I saw my sister, Vera, kneeling by her bed, praying! I knew that I was in her prayers. She may have prayed for many but I knew beyond a doubt that I was included in her praying! I never said a word, just backed down the stairs and walked away but I never forgot “the picture”, my sister praying! I was eight or nine years old then but the picture never left. Through the years when I became discouraged, went through hard times, or was tempted beyond my strength, “the picture” would come crystal clear, my sister kneeling by her bed, praying… for me! “The picture” impacted my life more than any other picture in my life. The summer that I stayed with Vera and her family we would often sing from a note book full of favorite songs. I loved that old hand written song book and she knew it. When it was time for me to leave and go back to school Vera handed me a note book. She said, “Here, this is yours”. This was long before the days of copy machines… she had copied the entire notebook/songbook, by hand, one word at a time, one page at a time! God only knows how many hours she spent copying the book for her little brother. In 1968, when the pain got so bad that I wasnt able to open my eyes, I finally consented for Loretta to call the ambulance to take me to the hospital. The diagnosis was ruptured appendix, emergency surgery, and no promise of surviving! A couple of days later, in the middle of tubes, bandages, and IV machines, I looked up to see “Big Brother” and “Little Sister” standing by my bed. They had driven three hundred miles to check on their “Little Brother”, just to make sure he was alright, and that he would survive. It was the best medicine ever! There’s nothing like “family”! Today I can see “The Picture” crystal clear… but there’s a “New Picture” alongside the original. There’s a beautiful lady with a heart full of love, kneeling, not by her bed… but at the Throne of God! In the middle of Heaven, worshipping and praying! She may be praying for many but there is no doubt in my mind that her “Little Brother” is in that prayer. So today, on this your birthday, Happy Birthday “Little Sister” and thank you praying, for “mommying” and giving your “Little Brother”, “the picture” that’s worth more than millions and millions of words! I love you! “Little Brother”
