The United States has led after the first day in seven of the 10 previous playings of the Presidents Cup. There are 11 players making their debut in The Presidents Cup, which is the most ever in the history of the event. There were 10 in 2003 and 2011. Each of the U.S. Team members has won on the PGA TOUR. Five of the International players have not won on the PGA TOUR (DeLaet, Matsuyama, de Jonge, Grace and Sterne). U.S. Team captain Fred Couples defeated International Team captain Nick Price 1-up in singles matches in the inaugural President Cup in 1994. Davis Love III and Couples also defeated Price and Bradley Hughes 1-up in foursome matches that year. These two matches are the only times the two played against each other in the Presidents Cup.
