The Principal’s philosophy of Education Dr. Robert J. Wilson. Dip PE, Dip Tch, M.Ed, PhD(D.Ed), The Principal of BES (2012-2013) I believe that education is the best endeavor of civilized man. Education allowed me to break away from my working class background and become a more productive member of society, that might have been the case. For me, teaching was the way I chose to serve society and provide myself with a positive and satisfying life-long career. Experience has lead me to conclude that the best classroom environment for children is one that positively supports students, offers a structured and well organized program, takes into account and deals with, student differences and encourages students to grow both as individuals and as a group. A mentor best reflected this perception when she said “making mistakes is a prime function of learning”. Learning is a direct consequence of being encouraged to experiment, experience the result and move on.” As a teacher, I worked hard to turn my vision of what should be, into a daily program of Instruction, which met community expectations and satisfied my own standard of performance. As Principal, I served a long apprenticeship learning how to develop and sustain a positive school climate, with focused on student achievement and quality instruction. My experience spans all grades and has provided me with ample opportunity to understand the challenges that impacts a public school system and the opportunity to develop some ideas of how to meet these challenges. In my view, good schools and good school systems, enrich the lives of staff and students and gain the respect and active support of parents, and the greater school community. In a variety of settings, I have successfully nurtured several good schools and freely admit that sometimes the results gained seemed to appear magically, rather than through any direct action that I caused to happen. My Doctoral degree was a large investment in my growth and upgrading. I am a successful school leader, who enjoyed in public education and would like to direct all my efforts towards, assisting a relatively new school system to make positive improvement and system-wide growth. My actions are framed by a firm set of values based on sound ethical practice.
