The Problem of Evil, Atheism, and the Possibility of a "Clean" - TopicsExpress

The Problem of Evil, Atheism, and the Possibility of a "Clean" Theodicy This is the first installment of a seven-hour interview which was conducted on 8/21/12 with James from NewApologetics. In this first part of the interview, James argues that a paradigm shift in theodicy is needed if the Church is to dialogue with atheists. It is argued that all models of theodicy in which God causes or approves of suffering and death as a "means to an end" are necessarily false, incompatible with divine goodness, and (though frequently used by Catholic apologists) are contrary to the Catholic faith at the most basic levels. James further argues that the stance of indignation concerning the suffering of the innocent (which is so often associated with atheism) is not contrary to the Catholic faith but is an essential aspect of it.
