The Pub On Newry Island - with reference to your comment on your site.....I have to correct you..... The last publican (easily recognized by having both his legs amputated below the knees), would venture to the mainland on weekends to pick people up and deliver them to his establishment. However this is not the case as anymore as he sold up to the national parks and retired to another island somewhere else. This part of your story isnt true. The fellow to whom you refer wasnt on Newry Island...he was on St. Bees or another island around that particular area...but not Newry. I lived on Newry Island and ran it in the early Nineties.
