The Public Library of Mount Vernon & Knox County will host an evening with award winning children’s author and illustrator Betsy Snyder on Tuesday, September 24, at 6:30 p.m. in the lower level multipurpose room of the main library, 201 N. Mulberry Street. Snyder, a resident of Independence, Ohio, made her publishing debut in 2007 with her colorful illustrations in Peanut Butter and Jellyfishes: A Very Silly Alphabet Book by Brian P. Cleary. She earned a place in the Society of Illustrator’s The Original Art 2012 exhibition. Her book, I Haiku You, was selected as a “New Classic” by Scholastic Parent & Child. Snyder loves to create smile-inspiring art for kids and the young at heart. Sweet Dreams Lullaby soothes a sleepy bunny with rhyming outdoor scenery. Another favorite, Have You Ever Tickled a Tiger? encourages children to touch-and-feel brightly smiling animals. Her cute and colorful images can be found on all kinds of things, from children’s books to board games to stickers and greeting cards. Her most recent work includes the illustrations for Tons of Trucks, a touch-and-move book by Sue Fliess and It’s a Firefly Night by Diane Ochiltree. Snyder will present a behind the scenes look at how she creates her books. She will discuss where her ideas come from, and things to consider when making books for children. The author will provide a Firefly Puppet craft for young children to do during her presentation. A question and answer period will follow with a book signing opportunity. Colonial Book Shop & Kid’s Shelf will be on hand to provide books for purchase. This program is free and open to the public. All ages are welcome—perfect for preschool through early elementary.
