The Queensland State Budget has just been released. The budget includes a range of reforms, however included is information that the Government is considering cutting the Translink Transport Concession by 15%. If implemented this will directly make all students pay 15% extra for public transport costs from October 1st. UQ Union believes that students are already under enough pressure with high public transport costs, especially those from regional areas and outside the Brisbane CBD. Translinks rates have increased by 15% since 2013 making Brisbane the most expensive capital city in Australia for public transport. UQ Union calls on the state Government not to implement these potential changes and to keep public transport affordable for all students.
