The Quinnipiac Bobcats just defeated the Niagara University Purple - TopicsExpress

The Quinnipiac Bobcats just defeated the Niagara University Purple Eagles, 89-80 in the Quarterfinal Round of the MAAC Basketball Championships at the Mass Mutual Center in Springfield, MA this evening. Antoine Mason scored 28 points, but Quinnipiac outrebounded Niagara due to their size and made more outside shots from the three point line than Niagara University did this evening. Quinnipiac led Niagara 38-36 at halftime. Niagara began the game well making some three point shots and playing good defense and competing on the rebounding. Marvin Jordan made two three point shots and the team showed spark and enthusiasm in the first half. But in the second half, Quinnipiac scored the first six points and kept the momentum going in the second half. They are the fourth best team in rebounding margin per game in the country, and had several scoring threats such as Ike Azotam, and Ousame Drame that could score both inside and outside, along with rebound. Quinnipiac was a very good team in the Northeast Conference for years, and in my opinion, could easily win the MAAC title. Antoine Mason did not have the 38 point game that he did against Marist, but did have 28 points, but missed five free throws. I would have pressed Quinnipiac with full court pressure sooner than they did, because there truly was no tomorrow. But I have to say that NU played hard tonight and competed for loose balls and forced many jump balls. They hustled, but were simply beaten by a taller, more athletic, and better team in Quinnipiac. Was so glad that I did attend the MAAC Tournament and have six more games to go! Have four games to attend Sun. and two title games on Monday. Have A Good Night, Mark
