The REAL Sabbath Rest! For somewhere he has spoken about the seventh day in these words: And on the seventh day God rested from all His work. Hebrews 4:4 The Sabbath Rest is for the people of God, and so we are NOW able to Rest IN Him the same way as He rested on the seventh day, the seventh day which was the representation of His (complete) finished work. I used to think God was finished after working six days, but the Sabbath Rest is the true and complete evidence of the finished work of God. So NOW we can look back over our lives and see that we have literally worked ourselves into exhaustion by trusting IN a performance based counterfeit of the REAL thing, a false gospel that promotes a separated God which produces only “confusion and every evil work.” A gospel which demands we do something FOR God IN order to receive FROM Him. Six is the number of the days God worked, it is also the number of man, the natural man, the man who knows about working FOR God. But no matter how strong he may think he is, he can be assured there will at some point be an end to his natural strength. Even youths shall faint and be weary, and [selected] young men shall feebly stumble and fall exhausted; But those who wait for the Lord [who expect, look for, and hope IN Him] shall change and renew their strength and POWER; they shall lift their wings and mount up [close to God] as eagles [mount up to the sun]; they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint or become tired. Isaiah 40:30-31 AMP When that happens, its what is known as coming to the end of self. its here where we are able to finally cease from our works just as He did from His.” This is the place where we enter into the already prepared Rest that He has waiting for those who see Him as...the Only True Worker. And this is why the writer of Hebrews says there must be some who enter IN. Since therefore it remains that some MUST enter it, and those to whom it was first preached did not enter because of disobedience, again He designates a certain day, saying in David, Today, after such a long time, as it has been said: Today, if you will hear His voice, do not harden your hearts. For if Joshua had given them rest, then He would not afterward have spoken of another day. Hebrews 4:6-8 The REAL Sabbath Rest of God is found only IN the NOW of who the believer is “Today!” But the prerequisite for entering into this “Today” Rest is IN knowing its the Spirit of God who is at work within, and it’s Him alone who is both willing and doing for His GOOD pleasure. (Philippians 2:13) The people of God who experience His mercy IN the midst of seemingly impossible circumstances are IN fact His perfectly groomed candidates, the ones who MUST enter into His Rest. This revelation is revealed to us as we see apart from Him we can do nothing, which includes the futility of trying to live the Christian life IN our own strength.
