The Ralph Diaries~ FEBRUARY 14 1967- San Antonio- Tuesday- Went to school, Sul Ross. Helped at Tims Catechism class, held at our house. Rick Hall and Keithley Binz are in the class. I just have 5th grade now. Tonight, went to a dance at T-Bird Rec Center. It was a dance club, had to wear a necktie. We had to draw names for the first dance, and of course, I got Myrtle, the fat girl. It was a fun time, though. (Note: I guess its not nice to call her fat, but who would name their daughter Myrtle and not expect her to get fat? I think Doris was behind the Dance club deal. And I wonder why we had those Catechism classes at our house, instead of the church?) 1968- San Antonio- Wednesday- San Antonio- Wednesday- Went to school (Holmes). Went to Student Council meeting, 3rd period. After school, went to Wonderland. Bought three new shirts for $14.50 at Montgomery Wards, 2 blue, 1 burgandy. (note: I was known for my polka-dot shirts back then, so Im sure at least two of the new shirts had polka dots. I know the burgandy one had yellow dots. The others coulda been paisleys. I was stylin, baby! Jackie Brock wore polka dot shirts and I wanted to be as cool as him.) 1969- Chicago-Friday- Went to school, Glenbard East. Had a group discussion on short stories in English class (Mr. Capps). Went home, lifted weights, listened to my new stereo, read the paper, watched Alfred Hitchcock on TV. 1975- Lubbock- Friday- Went to classes at Tech. Had a History test today. Today is Valentines Day, took Kay Carrington out. 1976- Lubbock- Saturday- Dispatched at Yellow Cab tonight. Cristi Couch got married today. Chad went, I didnt. He said she hugged him and cried (his old girlfriend. Ok, and mine, too.) (note: A Valentines Day wedding? How cute. Itll never last, Cristi!) (Theyre still married). 1981- Lubbock- Saturday- Worked at University store. Snowed hard all day. Went to The Rox tonight to see Iggy Pop and Joan Jett. Joan showed up, Iggy didnt. She did, however, play I Wanna Be Your Dog and dedicated it to Iggy. She did put on a great show. 1982- Lubbock- Sunday- Valentines Day. Took Kathy out to dinner. Foreigner in town tonight. 1983- Lubbock- Monday- Worked at University store. Roy Orbison in Dallas tonight. Dancin Dean & the Green Beans play all this week at Chelsea St. Pub. 1991- Lubbock- Thursday- Polly flew to North Carolina today, for her sister, Patricias, wedding. (I give it 6 months). I drove Polly to the airport. I worked at the University store all day. George Strait is in Amarillo tonight. (note: OK, they did stay married for 7 or 8 years, I was wrong.) 1992- Lubbock- Friday- Worked at University store. Tonight, at West L.A., I promoted Uncle Nasty ($200), Reckless Alibi ($50), Fang & Talon (free) and Tragic Machine ($50 and 1 case of beer).Cant say we made money, but we did have fun! 1995- Lubbock- Tuesday- Met the guys at the 82nd st. store at 8:00 AM, to film a new Ralphs Records TV commercial.Took 4 hours. Another stupid one, of course! 1997- Ransom Canyon - Friday- Worked at 82nd st. store. Promoted Blue Drag tonight. (sounds like a gay band.) 1998- Ransom Canyon - Saturday- Worked at 82nd st. store all day. Larry Thompson out of town today. Lane and I promoted Breedlove tonight. (also sounds gay). 2000- Lubbock- Monday- Worked at 82nd st. store. Insane Clown Posse supposed to play tonight, but cancelled (again). 2004- Lubbock- Saturday- Worked at 82nd st. store all day. Polly and I went out for dinner, for Valentines Day, then to Pritchards, to see Anna Ruth and her new band. We had a great time! 2007- Lubbock- Wednesday- What a day! Snowed all last night. Alison was home, sick, today. I took a pain pill last night for my toothache. As I was leaving, at 10:00 AM, for the dentist, my employee, Doug, called, said he was sick, and the other guy who was supposed to open that morning, Stephen, called and quit. Just what I needed, but I GOTTA go to the dentist. Found out I had cracked a rear molar. So, I had a root canal and the tooth prepared for a crown, cost $762. Then I had to go straight to work, with my mouth all numb. Doug left, went to the doctor, has bronchitis. Damon called and told me that Robin Kelly (his old girlfriend, my old renter) died this morning. Just one of those days. But, hey, tonight my tooth quit hurting, I took Polly out for a nice Valentines dinner at Mi Tios, had a cold beer and life is good again! 2009- Lubbock- Saturday- Opened the morning paper and saw a big photo of Polly and I, with a Valentines story about how we met, our favorite song, etc. Pretty cool! Thanks, Bill! Johnny Greene called, said theyre in town to visit his daughter and grandson, asked me to lunch. We went to McGilliguttys, had a good time. Went to work, very busy. Paid Lane lotsa money for his Tesla show tonight. Visited with Lane, in my office. Took Polly out to dinner, for Valentines Day. Tried to go to Rockfish, but it was 1 1/2 hour wait, with no place to sit, so we wandered over to TGI Fridays, next door. Not the classiest place for Valentines, but it was only a 20-minute wait and we had a funny waiter, so we had fun. (A year later, TGIFs is history.) 2010- Lubbock- Sunday- Polly and I exchanged Valentines cards at breakfast. We had our Valentines dinner at Cancun last night. Called Mom and Dad, they sounded good. Mom is spending tomorrow night at Donnas, leaving Dad alone, should be interesting. Alison called from Ruidoso, going to spend an extra night there, will miss school tomorrow. 2011- Lubbock- Monday- Drove out to the warehouse, still no water. Ted will have to look at it after he gets through with the plumbing at one of my rent houses. Polly and I exchanged Valentines cards. Shes still not feeling well, so we ordered in Orlandos spaghetti and ate at home. Pollys been sick for over a month. were ready for her to be well. Went by bank, post office, UPS. 2012- Lubbock- Tuesday- Stayed home till 1:00, paying bills, preparing bank deposit. Ate at Sonic, went by bank. Mike Pritchard came by the store, told me that Gary King (Buffalo Beanos) died this morning. This evening, Polly and I went to Lakeridge Country Club, for Valentines Day, met with Domi & Tim Harmon and Roy & Sharla Larson. great food, great time, drank too much red wine. We dressed up, they were in jeans. However, Roy did show me his black 2006 Lincoln Navigator thats for sale. Looks like a definite possibility. 2013- Ransom Canyon- Thursday- Met Michael Poindexter at Genghis Grill for lunch. Went by Bed, Bath & Beyond, bought some hooks for curtain ties. Went to work at 2:00. Tonight, took Polly out for a nice Valentines dinner. Then she took Joey out to buy groceries for the townhouse. Larry Powell, in S.A., that his mom told him that the T-Bird/Powell Elem. celebration last night was really nice and that she thought they had said my name in a list of former students who had achieved great success. If so, Im really pissed that I didnt go... 2014- Ransom Canyon- Friday- Polly and I decided to celebrate Valentines day tomorrow. Talked to Frank, the buyer of our Leakey house. He assured me that everything was cool, closing next Friday. Hopefully, the survey will be done by then. Called the vet, couldnt get Max in until 2:45. Took him in for an exam. The vet did agree that he is now totally blind. He has had peripheral vision for the last few months and seemed to get used to it. Now, he seems really lost and scared. Hopefully, he can get used to this new situation. Meanwhile, Polly and I will have to watch him closely. After the vet, I took him over to Waters Elem., by our old house. We had taken many walks there in the past. I kept him in the grass and he seemed to enjoy it, knowing there was nothing to bump into.
