The Reiki Experience Reiki is non-invasive and non-abusive. Most often, a feeling of warmth emanates from the hands of the practitioner. At times coolness has been felt, which in my experience has indicated the presence of inflammation. There may be many different sensations felt during treatment, but pain from the treatment itself is not one of them. The practitioner simply lays his or her hands on a series of positions on the recipients body with the intention to heal, and the energy will begin to flow automatically. Painful areas in the body can be addressed directly and relief will be felt. If the pain, however, is caused by an emotional/mental or spiritual issue, Reiki will go to work on that level before the physical level can heal completely. A feeling of well-being is common during a Reiki treatment. Recipients often drift into a light meditative state, or sometimes sleep. This allows the being to access the energy on a deeper level. By remaining quiet during the treatment, the recipient will receive the energy without distraction. Since the energy from the treatment is universal life energy, the practitioners personal energy does not affect the recipient, or vice-versa. The practitioner is simply the conduit for the transmission of the energy. Reiki can never harm because without an intention to heal, Reiki will not flow through the palms. The Reiki hands-on, full-body treatment usually takes from one to one-and-a-half hours, but can be tailored to any length of time depending on the recipients needs. A distance healing, as well as cleansing and charging of objects, takes 20 to 30 minutes. The distance treatment can also be tailored to individual needs.
