The Rescue Dog: I read an article this morning called Is a Rescue dog Right for you. Now these articles always get my attention and most of them get my hackles up and the reason they do is because no dog really should find itself in a position needing rescued and many of them lack the back up from the very people who bred them in the first place. However there are hundreds of reasons dogs find themselves in a rescue situation and I know only too well as its one of the most emotional and upsetting part of being involved in the world of rescue. People sadly die, people have terminal illnesss, marriage and relationship breakdowns, family allergies and so on and so forth. However one of the biggest reasons I find is The dog is not getting what it needs and that is massively reflecting in the dogs general behaviour. Now that can in lots of many ways, aggression, overly active and boisterous, destructive, being very timid and scared which brings its huge issues and many other behavioural problems. Now in this article it covers that taking on a dog with Issues may not be wise unless you are experienced and that of course is very true, however how have these Issues become and issue in the first place?? Well quite simply many dogs are bought as puppies, not shown the correct path in life, develop issues and then rehomed. So again it boils down to us humans who are creating this massive rescue nightmare. I also blame SOME not all breeders out there, as many have not a clue what they are breeding and as long as they sell their pups they really dont care if the new home for that pup is actually the best one, and by the best home I mean the home that is going to be an over all benefit to the dog. What is the answer? Well if I knew that I wouldnt be on my dog rescue page writing to all of you with tears streaming down my face thinking of how we as humans have created such a mess. Apart from dogs who have severe mental issues which are caused by illness which I will add are very very rare, most rescue dogs can be worked with, and do go on to be fabulous additions to new homes. I have also found that taking a dog out of its original situation, working with it, their behaviours can practically change over night, however some do need alot of further training and guidance and that is why I and many other rescues out there work very hard in working extremely hard with our rescue dogs and matching them up with the most suitable homes, in which they will thrive. I really urge all you clued up people to please educate those you know who are thinking of getting a dog that taking on a dog is just as muh responsibility as having a child. There is so much advice and help out there now, we really should not be making these mistakes with dogs lives xx
