The Righteousness of God Jesus said, “But seek ye first the kingdom of God, and his righteousness…” (Matthew 6:33). We are to seek the righteousness of God, “his righteousness” not our own righteousness because “as it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one, (for) we are all as an unclean thing, and all our righteousnesses are as filthy rags (before God) and we all do fade as a leaf; and our iniquities, like the wind, have taken us away.” (Romans 3:10 and Isaiah 64:6). Jesus taught his followers “Think not that I am come to destroy the law, or the prophets: I am not come to destroy but to fulfill (the law). For verily I say unto you, Till heaven and earth pass, one jot or one tittle shall in no wise pass from the law, till all be fulfilled (by me). (Matthew 5:17-18). Because Jesus fulfilled the law, the righteousness of the law is fulfilled in us (Romans 8:4) through his sacrifice on the cross, therefore his righteousness is imputed onto us (Romans 4:24) “that we might be made the righteousness of God in him” (2 Corinthians 5:21), IF we “walk not after the flesh but after (his holy) spirit AND “if we believe on him that raised up Jesus our Lord from the dead; who was delivered for our offences, and raised again for our justification” because “neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved from wrath through him for the wrath of God is revealed from heaven against all ungodliness and unrighteousness of men.” (Romans 4:24-25, Acts 4:12, Romans 5:9, Romans 1:18). This is the good news that Jesus Christ “was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed, in whom we have redemption through his blood, even the forgiveness of sins whom God raised from the dead (and) thanks be to God, which giveth us the victory through our Lord Jesus Christ. O death, where is thy sting? O grave, where is thy victory?” (Isaiah 53:5, Colosians 1:14, Acts 4:10, 1 Corinthians 15:57,55). The prophets of the Old Testament prophesied of this good news of their future and rejoiced in it. Jesus did say to the Jews “Your father Abraham rejoiced to see my day: and he saw it and was glad.” (John 8: 56). Jesus also told the Jews that the scriptures testified of him. (John 5:39.) Through the prophet Isaiah the LORD JEHOVAH, the GREAT I AM, our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ said, “…though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool. For I am the LORD thy God, the Holy One of Israel. I even I AM the LORD; and beside me there is no saviour. I,even, I AM HE that blotteth out thy transgressions…and will not remember thy sins. Look unto me, and be ye saved (for) I will also save you from all your uncleanness.” (Isaiah 1:18, 43:3, 11, 25, 45:22 Ezekiel 36:29)
