The Rockford Public Library wishes to send our condolences to the family of Elizabeth Walgren. She was active in the community; she served as president of the Rockford Public Library Board of Trustees, the American Association of University Women, and Rockford Public Library Foundation Board. She was an elder, deacon, and usher at Westminster Presbyterian Church and member of the Nominating Committee for Blackhawk Presbytery. Liz taught English at Jefferson High School and coached debate there, as well as at Guilford and Auburn High Schools Liz also was a founder of the Center for Learning in Retirement and served as Chairman for 3 years. In earlier years she was a vice-president of the Mental Health Society, served on the parent boards for Maud E. Johnson Elementary School and Guilford High School, and volunteered for the United Way, and the Northern Illinois Diabetic Coalition. She and her husband, Howard, were founding members of the Rockford Hockey Association and youth soccer (AYSO). Liz was a member of Chi Omega sorority, Phi Delta Kappa educational fraternity, and the Rockford Womens Club. Survivors include sons, Howard L. Chip, Jr. of Washington, D.C. and Robert G. Rob of Seattle, WA; sister, Margaret Kurtz of Scottsdale, AZ; brother, William G. Wilson of Harrisonburg, VA; and several nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. Tuesday, January 6, in Westminster Presbyterian Church, 2821 N. Bell School Road. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Rockford Public Library Foundation, 215 N Wyman St, Rockford, IL 61101 or the Good Samaritan Fund at Wesley Willows, 4141 N.
