The Rolling Stone is featuring a story about murders committed by the US special forces in Afghanistan. The locals have been digging up human remains of their friends and family members who were thought to be taken by the US elite military units. Its an important story when this sort of atrocity is wide spread where the US economic interests lead the US military interventions, and more than half of our tax money is spent on such a direction. Reporting like this requires a great deal of dedication and commitment to humanity when the western governments are arresting and detaining journalists and whistleblowers as terrorists. In Pakistan, anti-drone activists have been killed by the US drones. One of the Rolling Stone writers, Michael Hastings, who had been a vocal critic of the US foreign policies had been murdered in LA after confiding to his close friends that his car was tempered and he had been under surveillance by the FBI. This is an urgent time in which those who determined to protect our fundamental values are fighting a much bigger force which influences every levels of our lives. This is the time our children will look back and wonder why they are living in the conditions they would be in, just as we look back the 60s and recognize the seeds of the global violence in the series of political assassinations, the persecutions of the political dissidents, the growth of the neo-colonial policies as the majority closed their eyes and went along with the empire building. The empire is here. The system is constructed so that the fake democratic structure carefully shifts through the needs and desires of the powerful few to be put before the needs of the people. Right before Martin Luther King was assassinated, he clearly stated that our government was the root of the violence on the planet and the bombs that are falling in South Asia would explod in the poor neighborhood of the US. The bombs are still falling. And our voice of sanity is being silenced. So, please know that when we see articles like this, it means that someone cares a lot about our future.
