The Royal Norwegian Embassy in Malawi says it has not pulled out the K5 billion aid meant for the Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust (MMCT) as alleged in the story carried out in the Daily Times edition of 25th September headline. According to press statement made available to Malawi News Agency (Mana) Thursday from the Norwegian Embassy office in Lilongwe authored by Bjarne Garden Counselor/ Head of Development Cooperation says the MMCT project aims at addressing the concerns of many including Norway for the sound management of natural resources in the area. The embassy further said as a matter of fact Norway’s support towards Mulanje Mountain Conservation Trust has been carried out in accordance with an agreement by the MMCT and that the final disbursement of the financial resources was done towards end of last year. “The information that “Norway pulls out K5billion aid” does not reflect the state of affairs presently,” read part of the statement. The statement also says that a new proposal for continued support has been presented to the Norwegian Government for review and that a decision is yet to be made. There are ‘’several factors to be looked at towards the process for a decision to be made of which the foremost is Norway’s future development cooperation which have not been finalised until the beginning of the 2015 year.’’ Says the press statement.
