The SWP allows Australian employers in the horticulture industry to employ workers from eight Pacific island countries and Timor-Leste, when they cannot find enough local workers to meet seasonal demands....FIJI WILL SOON JOIN THIS PROGRAM AFTER THE BAN IS LIFTED.. The SWP also contributes to the economic development of the participating countries which include Timor-Leste, Kiribati, Nauru, Papua New Guinea, Samoa, Solomon Islands, Tonga, Tuvalu and Vanuatu. It offers a reliable, returning workforce to Australian employers and seasonal workers can undertake varied roles in the horticulture industry. Add-on Skills Training provides seasonal workers access to basic training opportunities. Seasonal Worker Program trials A three year trial of the use of seasonal workers with accommodation providers, aquaculture ventures and cotton and cane growers is also taking place in selected locations. Information for employers on how to recruit seasonal workers and the types of jobs seasonal workers undertake is available. Citizens from participating countries who want to become a seasonal worker or who have family or friends who may be interested in the program should send enquiries to the in-country contact point.
