The Sacrifice (uDHiyyah) is an emphasized recommendation. A lamb that has lost its front teeth or has completed one year is sufficient, as well as a two year old goat, a five year old camel, and a two year old cow. The camel is sufficient on behalf of seven people, the cow for seven, the sheep for one, and the goat for one. Four types are not sufficient for sacrifice: 1. the one-eyed animal whose blindness in the eye is obvious, 2. the lame animal whose lameness is obvious. 3. The sick animal whose sickness is obvious, and 4. The emaciated animal whose thinness is obvious. The emasculated and the animal with a broken horn are sufficient. The animal whose ear or tail has been cut off is not sufficient. The time of the Sacrifice is from the time of the ^Id prayer until the sunset of the last of the three Days of Tashriq. Five things are recommended during the slaughter according to Ash-Shafi^iyy: 1. to say “Bismillah”, 2. to say the Salah on the Prophet ﷺ, 3. to face the Qiblah, 4. to say the Takbir, and 5. to supplicate for acceptance. The one who makes the sacrifice does not eat any of it if it were for fulfilling a vow. He may eat from the Sacrifice that he did voluntarily. One must not sell any of the sacrifice. One feeds the poor.
