The Saharawi Human Rights Defender and ex-political prisoner Ali - TopicsExpress

The Saharawi Human Rights Defender and ex-political prisoner Ali Salem Tamek was stopped by the Spanish police at the international airport of Madrid today around 7pm. Ali Salem Tamek was participating this week in the EUCOCO conference in Madrid. after finishing his visit, he was traveling back to the Occupied territories of Western Sahara today on the flight number FR7752 operated by Rayn Air going from Madrid to Marrakech. after passing the border and security check point at the airport, he was surprised by two Spanish officer asking him to join them to a private room for interrogation where he found a third officer from the Spanish intelligence forces waiting for him. The questions raised by the Spanish police are of no sense as they were asking about his address in Al-aaiun and interrogating him about a person who shakes hands with Ali Salem Tamek during his visit to Spain. The Saharawi HRD was surprised by this question as he was participating in a conference where hundreds of people took part. Ali Salem was prevented from using his phone or contacting anyone for more than 30 minutes without any reasonable reason. However, this was not the first time that Ali Salem Tamek faces such harassment from the Spanish police. In May 2011, after he was released from Moroccan prison he traveled to Spain and was held in the airport by the Spanish police and interrogated by the Spanish intelligence for a couple of hours without any significant reason. It seems that Spanish government is dealing with Saharawi activists in the same way that Morocco does which gives an indication of cooperation against the Saharawi people.
