The Scandal of FAITH Series, based on the Book of James, Pt. 10. Faith without Good Deeds Is Dead! James really knows how to start a scandal among the Christians communities. He made a bold statement that faith without works is dead! ***James 2:14-17 {“What good is it, dear brothers and sisters, if you say you have faith but don’t show it by your actions? Can that kind of faith save anyone? Suppose you see a brother or sister who has no food or clothing, and you say, “Good-bye and have a good day; stay warm and eat well”—but then you don’t give that person any food or clothing. What good does that do? So you see, faith by itself isn’t enough. Unless it produces good deeds, it is dead and useless.”} For many believers, James bold statement contradicted what Apostle Paul said about faith. ***Galatians 2:16 {“know that a person is not justified by the works of the law [works of the law is obeying the law], but by faith in Jesus Christ. So we, too, have put our faith in Christ Jesus that we may be justified by faith in Christ and not by the works of the law, because by the works of the law no one will be justified.”} To tell you the truth I don’t see the contradiction in what James is saying, but I understand how others could have misinterpreted. When James talked about faith without works is dead; he meant that if we truly believe in Jesus Christ, we will do things to show that we understand His ministry of love, care and compassion for others. It’s so easy to say that I have faith in God, but sometimes our actions proved something different. Matthew 25: 35-40***This is Jesus speaking: For I was hungry and you gave me something to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me something to drink, I was a stranger and you invited me in, I needed clothes and you clothed me, I was sick and you looked after me, I was in prison and you came to visit me.” ‘Truly I tell you, whatever you did for one of the least of these brothers and sisters of mine, you did for me.
