The School of Media Studies is proud to present: On Monday, September 30th, Professor Bo Reimer (Media and Communication Studies) from Malmo University will visit SMS to present an overview of current research at the MEDEA Lab in Malmö, Sweden. This presentation will enable a discussion of possible collaborations between SMS and MEDEA Lab, both for students and faculty. Please encourage your students to attend--especially those who have an interest in international collaborations and research on transnational media studies. I also hope to see some of you at the talk as well. Monday, September 30, 2013 at 4:30 pm to 6:30 pm Dorothy Hirshon Suite (Room I205), Arnhold Hall "At the MEDEA Lab in Malmö, since 2010 media researchers have worked with interaction designers, artists and engineers, doing interventions in everyday life, starting processes that would not had happened otherwise. In my talk I will discuss the experiences of this work, focusing on the possibilities and problems of an interdisciplinary research approach that combines the social sciences and humanities traditions of empirical and theoretical work with practice-based, design-oriented techniques. In so doing, I will argue for the necessity of an interventionist turn within social analysis and media studies." Bo Reimer is the founding director of MEDEA Collaborative Media Initiative at Malmö University. He is the author of The Politics of Postmodernity (Sage, 1999, co-written with John R. Gibbins). His latest book is Collaborative Media. Production, Consumption, and Design Interventions, co-written with Jonas Löwgren forthcoming from The MIT Press, 2013. Free; no tickets or reservations required; seating is first-come, first-served Link to School of Media Studies Event Calendar: events.newschool.edu/event/school_of_media_studies_lecture_featuring_bo_reimer
