The Seahawk Century Link Field Experience. I just attended my first game at Century Link Field in Seattle last night as they opposed Green Bay. Some observations and lessons that we could make our San Diego Home Field advantage better. 1- It really is THAT loud! But the blue print for creating that 12th man home field advantage can be replicated. The organization does an incredible job in organizing the crowd. As the opposing team gets ready to go on offense, they play a steady note that is a subliminal message for the crowd to get loud. They back that up with visual prompts. It is almost like the core group of fans has spread the word, and that those Seattle fans even if they are attending a game for the first time, understand that being loud is part of the experience. The organization also does a lot in the pregame to explain this and get the crowd revved up well before kickoff. For example they post on the video monitors all over the stadium, how many false starts are caused and have been caused against the opposing teams because of the crowd noise. The home crowd is unified. The Charger organization could easily do the same thing. The other factor is that the stadium is designed to echo and that just adds to the volume. Easily the loudest stadium in the NFL and it DOES really create a home field advantage. On offense the crowd is quiet similar to Lucas Oil Stadium when Peyton Manning was there and Seattle can easily here the quarterback. They also unite the crowd with a “First Down” cheer that is played over the PA system every time Seattle makes a first down on offense. In summary……they really get it and have mastered the art of making their fan base feel a part of the team. Something we don’t have in San Diego. PS…….I am at the airport now, and the airlines are announcing early boarding to any passenger wearing a Russell Wilson Jersey. They “get it” here! 2- For a new stadium the concession lines are horrible……….and so are the lines for the restrooms. They have nothing on the “Q” here and will make me complain less at Charger Games. The overall fan experience is not that great considering that it is a new stadium. 3- The PA system at Century Link is lousy. It is not loud enough, and echo’s so the announcements and calls between plays are very hard to decipher 4- Seahawk Gear………Virtually everyone in town had a Jersey on in the workplace and that momentum has carried over to the games. Most everyone in attendance had Seahawk Gear on. Again this seems to engage the fan base and is another lesson the Chargers Marketing Department could learn.
